The Simpler Solution

Malin Christersson's gif of Heliocentrism vs Geocentrism is ripe for reflection. Study the models for a few minutes. Which one is more elegant? Which version makes more sense?

I'm working a project right now and I'm thinking of several possible solutions. One solution is complicated, expensive, and time consuming. I'm drawn to it because it might become a more elegant and simple solution. Although I'm tempted to chase the "better" version of the project, I recognize that I haven't allocated the time, money, or resources to implement it. So, I need to welcome the simplest viable solution.

If we spend too much time obsessing over the perfect plan we run the risk of not starting or losing traction on other projects and priorities. Sometimes its better to start with something that feels "imperfect" and gradually improve it.

Reflection Questions

  • Do you have a project that you can make simpler, yet better?
  • Is there something that you can release or reveal that isn't quite perfect, but "good enough?"
  • Is there something in your life that you need to streamline?
